Special Presentation at the 2017 SDAFF Spring Showcase

Every year, Pacific Arts Movement dedicates an entire day of the San Diego Asian Film Festival (SDAFF) Spring Showcase to a series of films centered around a topic or issue. In the past, Pac Arts has presented films remembering the 75th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon and showcasing independent films banned in China.

With the current social and political climate, the recent celebration of Fred Korematsu Day and the upcoming Day of Remembrance, Pacific Arts Movement will remember the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066 during the 2017 San Diego Asian Film Festival Spring Showcase (April 20-27) by dedicating an entire day of the festival to a series of films highlighting the courage of resistors and filmmakers who sought creative ways to register their discontent.

The film series will include depictions of both the Japanese American experience under E.O 9066 as well as the Muslim American experience post-9/11 and draw parallels between them. For this series, remembrance is only a precondition for action. “Never again” is not just a slogan for future generations but a warning for the current one.

The full lineup and schedule of events for the 2017 SDAFF Spring Showcase will be announced in mid-March. The Showcase will take place at the UltraStar Mission Valley Cinemas (7510 Hazard Center Dr #100, San Diego, CA 92108) April 20-27, 2017.
