The largest showcase of Asian cinema on the West Coast and one of the biggest platforms for Asian American media anywhere. Since 2000, SDAFF has celebrated independent storytellers and documentarians, Asian American artists and icons, and new voices that have gone on to become some of the most important of our time.
Since 2011, the week-long Spring Showcase has given fans another chance to see the latest in Asian cinema in San Diego. With only a dozen films, it’s the best way to whet your appetite before the fall, or to be introduced to the fun of the film festival.
Spotlight Screenings are one-off events throughout the year that highlight single films, present a small retrospective, or preview upcoming releases. Past Spotlights have included our the Taiwan Cinema Spotlight, a collaboration with the Museum of Photographic Arts.
Since 2005, Pacific Arts Movement has empowered local high school students to learn the art of documentary filmmaking through the Reel Voices program. This intense, 12-week summer internship helps students become socially-conscious storytellers, learn Final Cut Pro editing, and experience all stages of production and post-production.
Since April 2016, Pacific Arts Movement has been honored to partner with Monarch School in Barrio Logan to present a new media arts class based on our successful Reel Voices program for high school students interested in film production and digital storytelling. Other school partnership programs include our annual Youth Day at the San Diego Asian Film Festival!
