For nearly two years now, Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities have faced multifaceted challenges—responding with continued resilience, determined activism, and a sense of urgency that, in meeting the crises at hand, we must further uplift voices and empower our communities for the future.
Throughout the pandemic, the San Diego Asian Film Festival has carried on our work by engaging audiences from around the country through two wildly successful virtual festivals. In featuring a record number of live as well as pre-recorded Q&As and discussions, we showed that pivoting only meant finding new ways to showcase artists and the very stories that we have been entrusted to share.
As an organization, Pacific Arts Movement pivoted as well, working with dozens of community partners throughout our region to help establish and support a new San Diego Asian Pacific Islander Coalition— first in response to hate, and now to build power for the years to come. No amount of uncertainty could shake us from our constant mission to inspire and support a more compassionate society.
As we reflect on past years, Pac Arts’ presence as a community organization dedicated to providing a pivotal space in San Diego where Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander voices and stories are amplified is more important now than ever before.

OUR IMPACT
SDAFF 2021 made its return to theaters this Fall with over 130 films from more than 20 countries in 30+ languages.
Since 2000, the San Diego Asian Film Festival has been a centerpiece of Asian American culture in the San Diego region. The festival has influenced how Asian and Asian American cinema has evolved during this time and continues to strive to represent the AAPI community through storytelling.
At Pac Arts, film is a powerful medium to bring communities together in sharing unheard stories and voices from around the world. More than ever before, filmgoing in the safety and comfort of the community is of utmost importance.
Through REEL VOICES, Pacific Arts Movement empowers high school students to learn the art of documentary filmmaking through the Reel Voices program.
This 12-week summer internship helps students learn Final Cut Pro editing, and experience all stages of production and post-production. Reel Voices is open to all San Diego area students who are interested in learning about documentary filmmaking and how their voices could potentially represent and impact their communities.
